Hi Nommi backers!

Hope your July is starting well!

Last week was very busy and productive. We participated in ConnecTechAsia Summit and Echelon where over 5000 startups, investors, corporates, governments and tech ecosystem players came together to provide platforms to review, build and advance new products and technologies.  We also met with our backers in Singapore where we received a lot of helpful insights such as adding a data plan covering the whole SEA region vs just one country.  We also have devised a matted cover that will not leave fingerprints on it. We want to thank the backers who came to our development meeting for their time, presence and suggestions.  We really appreciate the creative inputs.

We also had an opportunity to test Nommi in Singapore where the internet speed was 58 Mbit/s.

Coming to the technical part of our update:

-   We have assembled PCB with test battery. We also have started making internal structure design of the case where there will be special holders for PCBA battery, antennas, button, etc.

-   We have just finished implementing the first stage of the Nommi firmware development which includes basic functionality, such as finding available networks nearby and doing connectivity checks (speed test, password test). Testing it on a prototype device is planned for this week.

-   We have pre-ordered samples of cables and adapters for Nommi.  We plan to test them to make sure the quality is sufficient and order the needed amount afterwards.

-   We have worked on the package design since last month, and we will share photos with you as they come back to us over the next few weeks.

-   We have chosen the fulfillment operator which is located in China, and are in the process of finalizing delivery options to our set of countries.

Good day, Nommi backers!

Hope you are doing well. The whole Nommi team is working hard on finalizing mobile application, testing the batteries, and etc. Let’s explain it in details:

Hardware and Software updates:

1) We have some wonderful news! We produced around 100 PCBs and are assembling them to conduct the next round of tests. In our next update, we will show you the assembled PCBs and the results of the tests.

2)  Also, we are running multiple tests on the batteries, such as:  checking real battery capacity, the current and voltage under load discharge, along with battery time to full charge and discharge. We want to choose the best battery for Nommi.

3) On the telecom side we work on integration with 2 partners who are aggregating the majority of operators across the world: one partner has telcos contracts across 85 countries, another across 130 countries. Basically we get APIs and work on integrating them into our backend billing system.

Others:

1) We always appreciate innovative ideas from our backers and therefore decided to create a discussion thread on XDA forum to get some insights into wi-fi authorization process. We already did a lot of prework however we’ll appreciate your insights a lot!  You can check it out here.

2) Our CEO Alyona Tkachenko visited Hardware Bootcamp by Arkley on June, 6th. We won the “The Best Pitch Winner” nomination and won a ticket for the Wolves Summit 2018 in Warsaw.

Hi Nommi backers!

It’s been a productive week at Nommi and we have a few updates to share! Let’s start!

Before the publication of the previous update about the delivery delay, we were very worried, as we did not know what to expect. But after the publication, we were once again convinced that we have the best bakers who understood and supported us! We really appreciate it. And we would like to thank you again in the form of a video message:

We’re planning to have a meetup for our backers in Singapore in the end of June. Our co-founders Alyona and Kairat will be in Singapore from 26th till 29th of June. They are going to visit ConnecTechAsia Summit (26-28 June) and Echelon Asia Summit 2018 (28-29 June). We would be very happy to meet with our bakers from Singapore and anyone else who would occasionally be there. We’ll update everyone closer to the dates.

Interesting fact: on 7th of May our CEO Alyona Tkachenko met with the President of Kazakhstan - Nursultan Nazarbayev and successfully presented Nommi. As it’s a very high profile meeting, we just wanted to share these news with you. Dear Nommi backers,

First of all, we want thank you for your support! We really appreciate it!

As promised at the very start of the campaign we continue to focus on Nommi’s quality and careful testing before the mass production. During the last month we’ve made a number of changes, both planned and unplanned:

1. During the PCB testing, we found out that in some regions and with some telecom operators Nommi has not the best possible internet connection so we decided to add some more LTE bands: B5/B8/B12/B28/B38 (besides those already planned - B1/2/3/4/7/17/20/40/41) for you in order to Nommi works reliably. We want our backers to receive the best device in the world! We have already integrated these bands into PCB.

2. We also added second wi-fi chip for Nommi so Nommi’s unique dual wi-fi feature switches you seamlessly between cellular data and public wifi networks in order to save your cellular data. Initially, we were considering to do it with just one wi-fi chip, but having 2 allows much smoother connection, so we went for 2.

3. We’re also in the process of developing the quick charge for those who ordered Nommi Power, so you can charge your device quickly almost twice faster than regular chargers.

How adding unplanned extras to PCB will affect the delivery schedule?

As we’ve made some important modifications in the PCB design, we’ve realized that we’ll also need to go through additional testing of those components and how they work in a stand-alone mode and with other components. As you know testing takes time. And we're very upset that we won't be able to hit our original timeline. So we will not be able to ship as soon as we had planned. Orders will begin shipping in September.

We hope you agree, and we hope for your patience as we work through the final engineering tests. In the meantime, we're committed to being as transparent as possible about what's going on behind the scenes. We really could not be more grateful for your patience throughout as we strive to make the very best product possible for you. We will not rest until you have your Nommi in hand.

Hi Nommi backers!

Want to share with you some updates from our trip to China.

1. We met with our core factory partners in Shenzhen and discussed manufacturing details and challenges that might occur. We’re working on finalizing the timeline for the PCB design now.

2.  We also went to Guangzhou to meet our partners from MorphoMFG who will help with supply chain supervision.

3.  It is very useful to ask for advice from people who already have work experience in manufacturing. So Alyona and Kairat met with developers, accelerators and makerspaces’ founders in Shenzhen and got inputs on how to optimize Nommi production.

On the software side, our backend programmers started to build backend architecture and billing system.
